Navy, Gold & Ocean Blue: Choosing Colours for Your Custom Piece
Aqsa Hanif4 min read
Not sure which colours to choose for your custom resin piece? Here is our simple guide to palettes, add-ons and matching colours to the room or the occasion.
One of the first questions we ask when you order a custom piece is simple: which colours do you love? For many people, it is also the hardest question to answer.
Colour sets the whole mood of a resin piece. The same coaster can feel calm, festive, royal or playful depending on what we pour into it. Here is how we help our customers choose.
Start With the Feeling
Before thinking about exact shades, think about the feeling you want.
- Calm and peaceful, for a prayer corner or bedroom.
- Warm and festive, for Eid, weddings and celebrations.
- Fresh and light, for a bright kitchen or a summer gift.
- Bold and elegant, for a statement tray or wall clock.
Once we know the feeling, choosing colours becomes much easier.
Colour is the first thing people notice, and the last thing they forget.
Our Signature Palette: Navy, Gold and Cream
Navy, gold and cream are the colours of MHER Resin Studio, and they are also among our most requested.
Navy gives depth. In resin, it looks almost like the night sky, especially when layered. Gold adds warmth and celebration, whether as metallic edges, mica swirls or gold flakes. Cream brings softness and balance, so the piece doesn't feel too heavy.
This palette works beautifully for Quran Rehals, name plates, wall clocks and Umar coasters. It also suits most homes, from classic to modern.
Ocean Blue and Sea-Inspired Pieces
Ocean blue is one of the most joyful colours to work with. We layer different blues, from deep teal to soft aqua, then add white to create the look of gentle waves.
How We Create the Ocean Effect
- Pour a deep blue base layer.
- Add lighter blues and aqua in sections on top.
- Pull a thin line of white along the edge where waves would break.
- Use gentle heat from a heat gun to spread the white into soft, lacy cells.
Ocean pieces look lovely as trays, serving platters and coasters, and they suit homes with a fresh, airy feel.
Soft Pastels and Florals
For a softer look, pastels like blush pink, lilac, mint and baby blue are beautiful. They pair especially well with dried flowers, which bring natural texture and colour.
These palettes are lovely for:
- Bookmarks and name keychains.
- Earrings, heart sets and lockets.
- Flower photo frames that hold wedding or garden flowers.
- Gifts for young girls and new mothers.
Keep in mind that pale and clear pieces may show slight yellowing over many years if kept in strong sunlight. Placing them away from sunny windows helps.
Rich Jewel Tones for Weddings
For weddings and big celebrations, deep jewel tones always feel special.
- Emerald green with gold.
- Maroon or deep red with gold.
- Royal purple with silver or gold.
- Rose gold with blush and white.
Bridal mehndi thaals in maroon and gold, or emerald with gold flakes, are some of the pieces that bring the most joy to our studio. These colours also photograph beautifully at events.
Choosing Add-Ons That Fit Your Colours
Add-ons can lift a palette or quietly support it.
Gold Flakes
Gold flakes suit almost every palette, but they shine most against dark colours like navy, black, emerald and maroon. On lighter colours, we use them more sparingly.
Dried Flowers
Flowers work best with clear, white, cream and pastel bases, where their natural colours can be seen clearly. On very dark bases, they can get lost.
Glitter
Glitter adds a festive sparkle and is popular for keychains, mobile covers and Eid gifts. We usually suggest using it in one area rather than across the whole piece, so it feels deliberate and elegant.
Matching Colours to Your Space
If your piece is for your home, it helps to share a little about the room.
- What colour are the walls and furniture?
- Is the room bright or softly lit?
- Is the style more traditional or more modern?
A photo of the space is even better. We can suggest colours that match or contrast in a pleasing way.
When You Are Unsure
It is completely fine not to know. Many customers simply tell us the occasion and who the gift is for, and leave the colours to us. We will share a few ideas and, where possible, show you similar past pieces before we begin.
Just remember that resin is handmade and every pour moves a little differently. Your piece will match the palette you choose, but each swirl and cell will be uniquely its own.
That is the beauty of it: no two pieces are ever quite the same.
